Of Psychic Stitches and Interior Cities

osmosis

what can i do
when the night comes
and
i break into stars
- Nayyirah Waheed

As I stitch, stick and layer seemingly disparate pieces of cloth, the act imparts meaning to the making, triggered by Nayyirah Waheed's eloquence. A therapeutic process, it leads me to a city of metaphors and memories: to Panjim.

Panjim - where an indelible past and a fractious present converge in the flowing Mhadei that lovingly swirls back and caresses the city, rearranging and reorienting itself to life's ebb and flow. A past which reined in feminine energy and continues to do so in the present - history repeating.

Thus the goddess within is riddled with several unanswered questions, of which Waheed's question seems to be the most pertinent. The more I am veiled and forbidden, the more I will burst forth and shine because, I cannot do otherwise.

The artwork was displayed in the exhibition: Panjim 175, a part of the Serendipity Art Festival, 2018
