eNirvana: Ran (Chaos)

This artwork was created as an interactive object designed for the StyleFile show, 2006 curated by Preeti Goenka.
I interpreted Akira Kurosawa’s masterwork Ran, especially because it is based on Shakespeare’s King Lear. In the artwork I have focused on archetypal characters like the Fool, the Emperor, the Warrior and the Self. I sought a catharsis in this work as an attempt to come to terms with the death of my father.
This artwork besides being a pictorial statement about war is also about how the media and visual arts constantly feed off each other, making it hard at times to distinguish one from the other. To manifest this symbiotic relationship I chose to work with an advertising gadget – an ideal ploy to engage with the sensual and the conceptual.
